The AIR RACEX Shibuya Digital Round, the world's first attempt to experience an air race using XR, was held in Shibuya, Tokyo. This is the first battle of the world's top pilots in four years since the Red Bull Air Race.
The players who made it through the preliminary rounds and advanced to the final round, in order of points, were Yoshihide Muroya (Japan), Matt Hall (Australia), Martin Csonka (Czech Republic), and Juan Velarde (Spain). The flight data used for the final tournament was recorded during the qualifying period, but the results were kept secret until the day of the competition. The XR that takes place here is the real final.
The immersive experience of the world's first urban XR sport, viewed on a head-mounted display with STYLY installed, is more than you can imagine. Not only will you see the air race pilots running through the scenery of the actual Shibuya area, but you will also be able to watch the aircraft so closely that spectators cannot enter the real air race venue, so you can see the planes running right in front of you. There were times when I could fly right over the top in high turns.
Additionally, the impact of the 3D sound is overwhelming. The feeling in my stomach was exactly the same as watching it in real life, and I could visualize the flight just by hearing the sound.
In the semifinals, Csonka defeated Hall and Muroya defeated Velarde. In the final, both Muroya and Csonka made it through without penalty, but Muroya with a time of 61.857 seconds defeated Csonka by a large margin with a time of 66.219 seconds and became the first winner of AIR RACE .
After the final, Muroya said, ``With everyone's help, we were able to hold an air race.I want to make ``AIR RACE X'' even more exciting and hold a real air race in front of tens of thousands of spectators. ” he said. Starting with this event, we are considering holding "AIRRACE X" in various locations.
