New possibilities in the cultural city of Shibuya

MIYASHITA PARK's Shibuya station side entrance area was opened for skateboarders as "Nike SB Sandy's City Miyashita Open" for 5 days from September 1st (Wednesday) to 5th (Sunday). This event was held not only for the purpose of providing a place to enjoy skateboarding, but also for the purpose of a social experiment of proposing a city design on the premise of increasing the skateboarding community.

In addition to the "Free Skate Session" where you can glide freely, we have prepared contents such as "Girls Night" that only women can enjoy and "Beginner Lesson" that beginners can challenge, and a total of 259 people checked in in 5 days. During the period, we saw children working hard to improve and office workers gliding during work breaks. The section used is planned to be donated to a skate park set up at the site of the disaster area in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture.

This time, I chose this place so that the city and the skateboarders can understand each other by creating an environment in the everyday city instead of the fenced skate park. It seems that many people witnessed the performance for the first time because they went in a busy area.

Recently, with the success of athletes at the Tokyo Olympics, the competition population has increased rapidly. However, while getting hot, manners in the city have long been regarded as a problem. Until now, parallel lines where neither the city nor the skateboarders could understand each other continued, but I think that creating opportunities for the two to meet will also lead to opportunities for enlightenment such as manners.

This time it had a lot of experimental implications, but I felt that there were signs that the city and the skateboarders coexisted. I hope that the possibilities will spread nationwide from Shibuya, the center of culture.
