As part of the “Shibuya Good Manner Project,” in order to raise awareness of social issues such as nuisance drinking on the streets and littering, we launched the “SHIBUYA Good Manner Challenge feat. Fortnite (https://shibuya-good-manner.com/fortnite/)” in collaboration with transcosmos inc. and EbuAction Inc., and have released “SHIBUYA CITY BOSS FIGHT” on the gaming metaverse Fortnite.
This time, the "SHIBUYA Good Manner Hackathon feat. Fortnite" event was held in the streets of Shibuya, and invited participants to submit creative, Fortnite-like games that incorporate awareness-raising elements to solve Shibuya's issues of street smoking, drinking, and littering. The winners have now been selected.
Out of many unique works, the winner of the "SHIBUYA Good Manner Award" was "EcoWars in Shibuya SGH," a cleaning tycoon game set in a devastated Shibuya 50 years in the future. The judges praised the game for not simply "cleaning up," but for highlighting modern issues through the game and giving players a chance to think about their responsibilities to the future while maintaining a story and the entertainment value that is characteristic of Fortnite. The judges, Osamu Suzuki and Bosuka Demizu, also announced their selections. The winning works will be made public and available for anyone to play.
"SHIBUYA Good Manner Challenge feat. Fortnite" is not just a game development hackathon; it will continue to provide a place to think about Shibuya's challenges and future.

Comment from judge Osamu Suzuki
I think the story about the issue of garbage is quite interesting. I applaud your creativity!
Comment from judge Posuka Demizu
The concept is good! At first glance, it seems difficult to operate. The first area is small, and the fact that it expands is easy to understand and appealing. It's clever how you're guided through the opening of areas without words. I was surprised by the meteorite scene at the end. It has a story and is interesting.
A good ending is good! I want to see the bad ending too!
Comment from the winner
I would like to express my sincere gratitude for receiving such a wonderful award. In this work, the setting is a world 50 years in the future where Shibuya is overflowing with garbage and has become a ruin, and I wanted to create an opportunity to think about garbage problems and littering through the experience of cleaning up the city and the stories of the residents. In order for Shibuya to continue to be a city full of diversity and charm, the cleanliness and safety of the city are essential, and I feel that the awareness of each and every visitor is also important to protect it. I would be happy if this work is a step toward that awareness. My theme is to bring positive change to the real world through the metaverse, digital twins, and games, and I feel that this award will further support that challenge. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who gave me this opportunity and to the city of Shibuya. Thank you very much.

At first, I thought, "Splatoon?", but as I played, I got excited by how fun it was as a car action game. Shibuya version of MAD MAX!!

Comment from judge Posuka Demizu
It looks like it's going to be very difficult with so many characters! They move well. The fact that there are a lot of people there is also nice, as it feels like Shibuya. The game is fun and funny overall, and is full of charm from start to finish. The background music also fits the atmosphere well. It's good that the presence of the beacons is easy to see, so it seems like you could set the difficulty level based on the beacon range.
It seems like it would be hard to follow the characters in the parkour scenes, but I was surprised by the original map. The content is easy to understand. It looks like it will be worth playing.
SHIBUYA Good Manner Hackathon feat. Fortnite Judges' Overall Comments
Comment from judge Motohiko Tokuriki
I was impressed by the wide variety of gameplay submitted, despite the short period of time we were open to entries. I think my view of Shibuya will change a little bit from now on.
Comment from judge Creanabi
It's been over a year since UEFN was born, and it's fun to see how the development level has improved dramatically.
Personally, I'm a big fan of Shibukuma, and I thought the way the people's expressions decorate the city assets was truly wonderful.
I hope Shibukuma becomes a series! Thank you for your hard work!
Comments from judge Osada Nagata
This was my first time judging a game production competition, and I was amazed at how many unique works were submitted in such a short time, and how well-crafted they were. The grand prize winner, "EcoWars," was a wonderful work that depicted Shibuya from a unique perspective, and was exciting while also dealing with social issues. Just as Shibuya has grown together with its creators, I feel there is potential for new collaborations in virtual space. I would like to continue thinking up urban development projects that a diverse range of creators can participate in!
