Demonstration experiment begins to visualize the effect of cool spots on Shibuya's heat and collect environmental data

Press release

Together with Shibuya Ward, Daikin HVAC Solutions Tokyo Co., Ltd., Oak Information Systems Co., Ltd., and Toyoko Support LLC, from Friday, July 20th to Sunday, October 21st at Tokyu Plaza Harajuku "Harakado" and Shibuya Cast, the beer garden "Hoegaarden BEER GAARDEN" will be open for a limited time only, serving the world-famous Belgian white beer "Hoegaarden." To provide visitors with a fulfilling experience, and to prevent heatstroke, we will be setting up cool spots (outdoor air conditioners) at the garden.
This initiative is being carried out as part of the "Model Project for Promoting Effective Heatstroke Prevention Measures in Local Governments in FY2024" adopted by the Ministry of the Environment, and aims to raise awareness of heatstroke prevention measures.

The SHIBUYA GREEN SHIFT PROJECT, founded by Future Design Shibuya, Osaka University, and Daikin, aims to provide cool spots where people can enjoy the city comfortably, collect environmental data, and implement heat countermeasures to cool down the future Shibuya by 1.5°C.

The cool spots are equipped with Daikin's outdoor air conditioner "Outer Tower" and Toyoko Support's non-wetting mist "Cool Mist Line®︎". They provide high-quality "coolness". In addition, Oak Information Systems Co., Ltd.'s cloud-based system "SisMil®︎" is installed, which can centrally manage environmental measurements such as the heat index. The cool spots and places where heat stroke prevention measures are not taken are automatically measured, and environmental data such as the heat index (WBGT), temperature and humidity are measured to measure the effectiveness of the cool spots.

We will also conduct a demonstration experiment to visualize the collected cool spot effect data in real time.
The data obtained from this demonstration experiment will be analyzed and provided as basic data for future heatstroke prevention measures in Shibuya.
