project overview

Mirai Library is a community support project aimed at raising children's interest in the future, empathy, and ability to survive by gathering children from various environments.
Every Tuesday to Thursday, in addition to after-school homework support, we will carry out creative programs using digital tools, social education from the SDGs perspective, experiments, and hands-on learning programs. We aim to build a place where children can spend their time with peace of mind, not at school or at home, and to foster children's curiosity and creativity.

2021 Implementation Program

In Mirai's library, the program is organized from three perspectives: "My (I) Mirai", "Machi (Shibuya) Mirai", and "Regional Mirai".

・ The mystery of the weather
This is an experiential learning program where you can learn about the weather and the environment from familiar things such as temperature and changes in the weather. We aim to foster curiosity and interest in SDGs such as climate change, centering on workshops such as experiments, works, and presentations by weather forecasters once a month.

・ Let's play with projection / Scan anything
It is a program that utilizes digital fabrication to notice things from a new perspective using 3D scanners, 3D printers, projectors, etc. We aim to develop imagination and communication skills centered on the workshops of "seeing," "knowing," "trying," and "learning."

・ Let's make a story
It is a program that utilizes manga, such as writing impressions of your favorite manga, announcing your favorite lines and scenes, and creating a story. We aim to foster diversity and self-expression, centered on workshops that assemble four-frame manga and stories using pictures, photographs, and poses taken by ourselves.

・ Double Dutch Challenge
This is a program from the "NEXT GENERATIONS" street sports project for people under the age of 15 with the aim of enlightening the promotion of street sports and the improvement of manners carried out by Future Design Shibuya. We will challenge Double Dutch, practice and announce the performance on the final day. We aim to foster courage, self-confidence, cooperation and communication skills through sports.

・ Let's find out! "Machii-san (heritage)"
It is a program to enhance understanding and attachment to the town by finding unique things in the town where we live. With the cooperation of the town heritage expedition team from the "Sasahatahatsu Machi Lab", we aim to foster awareness as a member of the community of the region, centered on a workshop to discover familiar "town heritage" and complete the map.

·design
This is a program to learn to see, touch, think, and express familiar designs. We aim not only to experience the joy of expressing through drawing and crafting, but also to acquire new perspectives and ways of understanding things to enrich our imagination.

・ Time for play and learning
There are various discoveries and new encounters in play. This is a program that uses video content in various fields that generate curiosity as teaching materials. We aim to enjoy new discoveries with an approach that is different from school lessons.

Mirai Library "Weather Mystery Workshop" Implementation Report

On Tuesday, February 15, 2022, a mysterious workshop on the weather was held at the Mirai Library, the third place for children of the Nippon Foundation. The theme for this second edition is "snow and ice."
"Why can snow be made?" "How much does it weigh?" "What kind of snowflakes are there?" I deepened my understanding through various quizzes and experiments. "Snow is a letter sent from heaven-Ukichiro Nakaya", I learned that by observing snow, I can understand the temperature and humidity above the clouds, and each event around me is related to each other. I learned to be.

In the latter half of the program, I was able to touch on the lives of countries with temperatures above -70 degrees Celsius, and learn about changes and differences in the environment due to climate.
During the workshop, we saw children asking questions and actively raising their hands to answer quizzes, and it was possible to see how their curiosity was stimulated through the experience.

What is the "Children's Third Whereabouts Mirai Library" base?

"Mirai's Library" is a third place learning and living support model for children, mainly for elementary school students, in addition to homework support, creative programs that utilize various digital tools, social education from the perspective of SDGs, etc. It is a community support project that aims to increase interest in the future, empathy, and ability to survive by providing experiments and experiential learning programs.

What is "the third place for children"?

The Nippon Foundation plays a central role in developing the ability to survive for future independence, such as self-affirmation, ability to interact with people and society, lifestyle-related habits, and learning habits, in an environment where children can spend their time with peace of mind. It has been open nationwide since the year.
At the same time, we will cooperate with schools, communities, and specialized institutions to function as a hub for a "community for raising children in a community where no one is left behind." Currently, 74 locations are installed nationwide, and we aim to open 500 locations nationwide by 2025. (As of January 2022)
